Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Echo, from setup to subscription management.

1. What is Echo?

Echo is a voice dictation and voice command app for macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android, all live today. Hold a key and speak, and your words appear as text wherever the cursor is, in any app. Hold the command key instead and Echo acts on what you say: opening apps, sending messages you dictate, and answering questions about what is on your screen. It supports code-switching between English, Hindi, Marathi, and Kannada.

2. Which languages does Echo support?

Echo supports four languages:

  • English
  • Hindi
  • Marathi
  • Kannada

Echo's unique feature is code-switching: you can seamlessly switch between languages mid-sentence, and Echo will transcribe accurately. For example, "I went to the दुकान to buy some ಸಾಮಾನು" works perfectly.

3. What can Echo do besides write?

Echo has two gestures. One writes what you say. The other acts on it. Hold the command key, speak, and Echo can:

  • Open apps by name.
  • Send messages you dictate to a person in an app.
  • Answer questions about what is on your screen.
  • Remember and recall screens: capture what you are looking at and bring it back later by voice.
  • Run multi-step routines: chain several actions into a single phrase.

Connecting a service is optional; dictation works on its own.

4. How do I start using Echo?

Desktop (Mac and Windows):

Step 1: Download Echo from finalleap.co/echo: the .dmg for macOS or the installer for Windows.
Step 2: Install it (drag Echo to Applications on Mac, or run the installer on Windows) and open it.
Step 3: Grant microphone and accessibility permissions when prompted.

Mobile (iPhone and Android):

Step 1: Download Echo from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
Step 2: Open Echo and grant microphone permissions when prompted.

Then, on any platform: sign up with your email to start your 14-day free trial (no card required), and start speaking.

5. Does Echo work in any app?

Yes. Echo works system-wide across your device, on desktop and mobile. On Mac and Windows it types into any app with a text field: Messages, Mail, Google Docs, Notion, Slack, WhatsApp Web, VS Code, and more. On iPhone and Android it works wherever you can type. As long as there is a text input, Echo works.

6. Is my voice data stored?

No. Your voice audio is processed transiently and immediately discarded after transcription. We send audio to Sarvam AI (an Indian AI company) for transcription, but the audio is not stored by us or by Sarvam AI.

Only the transcribed text is saved in your Echo history for your reference. You can delete your transcription history at any time from the app.

7. How does the 14-day trial work?

Echo offers a 14-day free trial with full access to all features. No credit card is required to start the trial. After 14 days, you'll need to subscribe to continue using Echo. If you don't subscribe, your trial ends and you lose access to the app.

8. How much does Echo cost?

Monthly Plan: ₹1,499/month, billed monthly
Annual Plan: ₹8,994/year (₹749/month), billed annually, save 50%

Both plans include unlimited dictation and voice commands, all four languages, code-switching, transcription history, and future updates. Payments are processed via Razorpay.

9. How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your subscription anytime from the Echo app:

Step 1: Open Echo
Step 2: Go to Settings → Account → Manage Subscription
Step 3: Click "Cancel Subscription"

You'll retain access to Echo until the end of your current billing period. No refunds are issued for partial months, but we consider refund requests made within 48 hours of billing.

10. What do I need to run Echo?

Echo runs on four platforms:

  • macOS: version 12.0 (Monterey) or later, Apple Silicon or Intel.
  • Windows: Windows 10 or later.
  • iOS: iPhone on iOS 16 or later.
  • Android: Android 9 or later.

On every platform you also need microphone access and an internet connection for transcription.

11. Does Echo work offline?

No. Echo requires an active internet connection to process voice transcription via Sarvam AI. The transcription happens in real-time over the network. Without internet, Echo cannot function.

12. How accurate is the transcription?

Echo uses Sarvam AI's state-of-the-art speech recognition models trained specifically for Indian languages and accents. Accuracy depends on:

  • Audio quality (use a good microphone)
  • Background noise (quieter is better)
  • Speech clarity and speed

In optimal conditions, Echo achieves 95%+ accuracy. For technical jargon or rare words, accuracy may vary.

13. What is code-switching?

Code-switching is the ability to seamlessly switch between languages within a single sentence. For example:

"I need to buy सब्ज़ियाँ from the market today"

Echo automatically detects when you switch from English to Hindi (or any combination of the four supported languages) and transcribes accurately without requiring you to manually change language settings.

14. How is Echo different from built-in dictation?

Echo is purpose-built for multilingual users, and it does more than transcribe:

  • Code-switching: Echo handles language mixing mid-sentence; built-in dictation does not
  • Indian languages: Echo supports Hindi, Marathi, and Kannada with high accuracy tuned for Indian accents
  • Always-on hotkey: hold one key anywhere, anytime, no app-switching required
  • It acts, not just writes: built-in dictation only writes text, while Echo can also open apps, send messages, and answer questions about your screen
  • History: Echo stores your dictations for reference
15. I'm having trouble with the hotkey: what do I do?

On desktop, if the dictation hotkey isn't working:

  • Make sure Echo has the permissions it needs: on macOS, enable it under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility; on Windows, allow Echo in your microphone and privacy settings
  • Check if another app is using the same hotkey, and disable the conflicting shortcut
  • Restart Echo and try again
  • If the issue persists, email echo@finalleap.co with your platform, OS version, and device
